10 Simple Care Tips for Your Flowers
A very simple and still elegant way of decorating your house is to make use of flowers for doing that. Simply putting a few flowers in a vase can make a table look beautiful. Similarly there are many other ways in which flowers can be used to make our house beautiful.
Everyone knows this and we all end up buying expensive flowers every now and then to decorate our house or get them as gifts from our loved ones. In any case, we wish that the flowers stay with us for as long as possible.
So, what can be done to make sure that these flowers stay fresh for long? We will provide you with a few care tips for making sure that you can preserve the beautiful flowers in your house for a little longer:
- Make sure that the flowers you buy are properly wrapped up for protecting them against sunlight and other harmful influences and the stems are damp enough so they don’t get dried up soon.
- Change the water in the flower vase regularly
- Keep tending the flowers for any dried leaves or flowers to prevent the fresh flowers from harmful gases emitted by the dried up flowers and leaves.
- Cut the stems of the flowers properly with a sharp scissor or knife. Do not use a blunt knife or try to break the stems by hand by twisting or turning it. This blocks the water vessels and hence, the flowers can’t feed themselves and thus they get dried up quickly.
- Protect your flowers from direct heat or sunlight.
- Cut the stems of the flowers at an angle. This gives more area to your flowers for feeding themselves.
- Do not put the flowers near ripened fruits as this will spoil the flowers sooner than expected.
- Make sure that you remove all the leaves around the stem from the part that will be submerged in water. The leftover leaves submerged in water tend to rot inside the water and hence destroy the flowers.
- All the vases or vessels used to keep your flowers must be cleaned properly to prevent any unwanted bacteria.
- Make use of lukewarm water for cleaning and cutting the flowers (except a few water flowers that refer cold water) because it has less oxygen in it.
These tips for taking care of your flowers might be very useful for you. Always remember them while you use fresh flowers for decorating your house as these will help your flowers in remaining fresh and beautiful for longer than you even thought.

5 Things we should not do while growing flowers
Taking care of your plants and flowers and tending them in a way that they blossom to their fullest is not always an easy job. There is so much information and so much to remember that there is always some confusion at the end. Though there are a lot of different things to be taken care of in order to take special care of your plants, but still there are a few common things that you can keep in mind to help them survive without going too much into the details. Here is what you should not do with your plants and flowers in order to have a less stressful experience:
1. Do not put your flowers close to ripening fruits: Ripening fruits and drying flowers emit small amounts of ethylene gas which leads to aging of flowers before time. So, keep your flowers away from both. Tend the drying flowers regularly and keep your flowers away from ripened fruits.
2. Do not put the flowers in very warm areas: Always make sure that your flowers are kept away from direct heat or bright sunlight. Too much heat leads to high growth of bacteria, hence destroying the flowers.
3. Do not put aspirin or lemonade or bleach in water that is used for keeping your flowers. These do more harm than good to your flowers as they are not capable of feeding your flowers properly.
4. Do not mix narcissi or daffodils with other flowers. Though these look beautiful but when the stem of these flowers is cut, they emit latex, which is harmful for other flowers and shortens their lifespan. There are many other ways of mixing daffodils with other flowers that are safe but that needs precision and a little expertise.
5. Do not smash or pierce the stem of the flowers, or use blunt scissors on the stems. This leads to destroyed water vessels and thus the flowers can’t take water, and also this leads to the growth of bacteria around the stems of the flowers. This destroys the flowers well before time.
